Linkage with the Computational Physics Group of the Institute of Physics
The initial impetus for the group came from within the UK Medical Physics community, and meetings still retain a significant medical bias. However, the membership is broadly based and we therefore felt that if our group was to have a formal linkage with a professional body within the UK, the most appropriate body would be the IoP Negotiations began in 2001 with the Computational Physics Group of IoP.
The link is now well established. The interests of MCNEG Members are represented at meetings of the IoP Computational Physics Group by Geraint Lewis, and through this arrangement the IoP provides some financial support and backing for the annual meetings in the form of travel awards and help with advertising etc. Group members are reassured that the activities of the group are grounded in the activities of the major professional body for physicists in the UK, and in return the IoP benefits from the participation of this active and enthusiastic group
MCNEG Members are encouraged to join the IoP and the Computational Group but this is not compulsory.
